Former Apple engineer claims Siri will never catch up to ChatGPT in the AI chatbot race: Here’s why

AI chatbots are at the top of the market right now, and the likes of ChatGPT have stepped up this competition with giants like Microsoft and Google keeping an eye on it. But most of you are wondering, where does Apple stand in this battle? And will we see Siri become an obvious contender against the popular AI Chatbot.

Well, according to a former Apple engineer, Siri will never be the answer for the company in its quest to become a leading force in the AI circuit. John Burkey knows more about Siri than most of us, including Apple employees, and he explains why ChatGPT doesn’t face Siri’s competition.

Burkey claims Siri can only answer simple questions, and adding new queries requires Apple engineers to add new words to the database, which can take weeks to complete, Burkey was quoted as saying in a New York Times report.

Speaking about ChatGPT, he claims that integrating Apple to search for such a high-level AI model will take about a year, which is a lot of time in the context of the industry. He blames Siri’s outdated and convoluted code, which makes it difficult to bring new tools and features to the voice assistant quickly.

Burkey joined Apple in 2014 on a mission to improve Siri, but left the company in 2016, citing problems with Apple’s voice assistant. His comments come on the heels of ChatGPT 4.0, which Open AI introduced this week and Microsoft already uses its AI model to perform Bing searches for all users.

ChatGPT is rumored to make voice assistants feel like outdated technology, prompting the likes of Google and Amazon to make immediate efforts to keep themselves updated and moving in the right direction, or else lose out to future competition.

Google has made its moves in this space, but nothing comes close to the accuracy of ChatGPT, while Apple has been relatively quiet so far. Both companies are hosting their developer conferences in the coming months, so expect more buzz around them in preparation for the event.
